The problem at a wedding isn't the atmosphere: it's that the tables never talk to each other.
Your guests come from two families, several towns, sometimes two countries. They end up seated eight to a table for four hours, and by the end of the evening half of them have never spoken. The drinks reception is the only moment they move, and it is short.
A treasure hunt during the reception solves exactly that: it gives people a reason to cross the venue, bump into strangers, and ask them for help. The questions are about you — the one subject everyone in the room has in common.
How to go about it

Hide the codes where people already pass
The bar, the buffet, the photo booth, the entrance, the garden, the guest book. The point isn't to make the codes hard to find, it's to move people to places they wouldn't otherwise go.

Write questions about your story
The year you met, the town, your first trip, the name of the best man. Old friends know the answers, newer ones have to ask around — which is precisely the effect you want.

Launch it during the drinks reception
That's when people are standing and free. Announce it on the microphone, put the entry link on a sign at the door, and let it run for an hour.

Announce the winners at dessert
The leaderboard updates live. Revealing it over dessert gives you an extra moment in the evening, and a reason to reward a table.

Advice from the field
Print the codes on your stationery
The codes download as PNG files. Slip them into the menu, onto the place cards, or onto a sign at the entrance, in the same style as the rest.
Think of guests from abroad
If some of your guests speak another language, set the hunt up in two: each question is written in both, and everyone plays in the one they choose.
Frequently asked questions
Do guests have to install anything?+
No. The QR code opens the question in the phone's browser, and a first name is enough to join. That matters at a wedding: nobody will install an app between the drinks and the meal.
How many questions should a wedding hunt have?+
Ten to fifteen. A drinks reception rarely runs beyond an hour and a half, and guests play in bursts, between conversations.
What if the venue has poor reception?+
Questions load from the internet. Test the mobile signal in the room before the day, and ask the venue for the Wi-Fi password so you can display it next to the entry link.
